My boyfriend thought his shoulder pain was due to pulling some muscles. After a couple of months of it getting worse…he thought …oh my Lord…I bet I have a torn rotor-cuff. We only wish it was so…
He went from those thoughts to the doctors finding a tumor on shoulder..(no problem, odds are that it is benign)...to hearing lung cancer with metastisis to shoulder and large bones… and 12-18 months???

I started logging this “journey” from MY perspective. The thoughts, feeling and poetry from someone who loves someone…who has cancer.

I wrote his sister an email to see how Wes was today. I talked to him yesterday morning and called frieda’s housee last nite (talked to Greg) because I had left Wes a couple of emails. Greg told me he didn’t have a good day yesterday. Coughing up stuff…cramping in his chest(?)…bless his heart. I wonder if this is a normal reaction to the chemo or if things are just getting…worse??

I spoke to Freida tiday to see how Wes was last nite. She said they kind of got worried last night and paged the doctor. He was having cramps in his left pectoral muscle from all the coughing and dry heaving. It seemed like the cramps weren’t going to stop. And of course she was thinking “Is it really cramps or could it be a heart attack?”

Finally a doctor called her back and she explained her concerns. In the end the doctor said for him to take some Alleve, Advil or something like that (she thought those would work better than Tylenol), and if we got scared enough, to go to the ER and have him checked out. The Alleve helped and he was able to sleep pretty much all night. His cough is getting worse and worse (more frequent). He doesn’t just keep coughing but basically does one deep “hark” to bring up phlegm. Frequently.

We were hoping that yesterday day would be a decent day for him. He ate 1.5 fish sandwiches from McDonald’s and that was it. He hasn’t really eaten diddly squat since Friday. This sickness has lasted longer than we expected. 5 days instead of 2. If he can just eat a couple of good meals he should start to get his strength back.

Freida said she hoped she wasnt freaking me out..I told her not to worry about it…I was already freaked out! LOL Plus, I would rather know everything then to be in the dark. Plus… ed toshe needed to “share” the “freaking out part”…she shouldn’t have to bear that on her own.

I told her that when I was talking to him on Sunday he got very tearful…I almost felt like he felt…he was going to die…sooner than the “allotted time”. It was just a feeling….just the way he said things…I didn’t, and couldn’t say anything to him about if indeed that is what he was feeling…I couldn’t have held it together well enough to have done that. I asked him Memorial day weekend…if he had said the “Prayer of Salvation” because I wanted to see him in heaven when I die. He said he had. I don’t know his level of faith. Actually I pray for God to heal him…to take the cancer and pain out of his body…then I resort to “If it is not HIS will…to at least give him strength and peace and more good days than bad”.

I cant imagine the toll this is taking on his, I told his sister to please never hesitate to let me know what I can do…or to get my ass there when I need to be. I talk to Wes on the phone and he says whether or not he wants or feels like company…and I certainly respect that. But I wanted her to know that I am aware that I prance in there when he is feeling better and I am not there when he is throwing up…or having chest pains… so I KNOW I don’t know the half of it. I am always willing to do whatever they need me to…they just have to let me know.
