Well, I didnt get to see Wes last week because I was sick as a dog and certainly didnt want to expose him to any kind of cold, germs, or funk that had evidently found me last weekend as I made my way through thousands of people at City Stages. He had his chemo last Wednesday and I am sure he is very vulnerable
The Zofram (spelling doesnt count does it?) controlled the nausea so thank goodness he didnt have to deal with that. He had a lot of joint aches and pain, but said he could certainly handle that as long as there wasnt any vomiting involved.
I talked to him daily…and bless his big ole southern heart…he was worried about me. He is so caring.
After I checked with my doctors office to make sure I wasnt contagious, I called him today and went to visit him after work at his sisters house. Bless her heart…and her husbands! Not only are they giving the best care for Wes and for his mom that are basically living with them now, her daughter has moved in for a couple of months until school starts (she is a teacher) in a new city she is moving to, but they also have their 3 grandchildren staying with them for a couple of weeks. Can anyone say…valium?? LOL! But you know, she wouldnt have it any other way.
I went to see Wes, and we were both glad to see each other! His hair is really thinning out. He has lost most of his darker hair…but the gray is hanging in there. He looks pretty good to me…as I told him before bald is in and sexy and he has a very shapely head…whereas after rubbing on my head, we decided that it was shaped like a bicycle helmet and would not be a pretty site at all.
He said his feet were numb…asleep. So of course, I am at the end of the bed rubbing them and then challenged him to let me lean in to him with all my weight while he extended his legs and pushed me out and pulled me back into him. Kind of like when you were a child and someone would lay on their back, grab your hands, and then put their feet into your stomach and lift you into the air and back down again. He did that 10 times with one of his legs and then he just looked at me. I am sure he wished he had never mentioned it to me.
I filled him in on what was happening with my family, his friends, and talked to his precious little niece about their visit to the zoo today. I gave him a written prayer vigil that my mothers cousin’s church had for him in Germany. Of course, it was in German, and I made a mediocre attempt to translate the prayer. He folded it up and out it in his wallet and talked about how touched he was that so many people have them in his thoughts and prayers…and he could certainly use everyone of them.
I ended up staying there about 3 hours and decided to head on home since it was a work night and I live about an hour away and that I was sure my dog had thought his throat had been cut since he hadnt been fed yet (and Lord knows he doesnt miss a meal). When I left, he was in much better spirits…and I know I certainly was. We are hoping he is feeling good enough to come and visit me this weekend.
Until the next time, may the heavens smile upon each and everyone who is going through this.

May the heavens smile upon you two as well.
Sending a Big Hug!
Hey Celeni (and Wes)
I pray for both of you all the time! Wes, that you might get better and for our precious Jesus to give you strength. Celeni and the rest of the family need strength, too. My grandmother had the same name cancer. I remember how hard it was on the family. So, I think strength is a good thing to pray for—for all of you.
In my prayers daily!
Love and hugs,
Krissy
Celeni & Wes, know that you are always in our prayers. We think of you often and miss hanging out with you. We still need to get in a game of FARKLE soon. That will surely lift your spirits. Some of us are thinking of coming to take your out for an outing when you feel like you might be up to it. We love you LOTS!
The Corn-Banks family.
